The Matchsellers Duo Live in The Shakespeare Pub, Herdecke

Hailing from the heartland of America, The Matchsellers infuse traditional roots music with a modern, irreverent twist and call it Kansas City Bluegrass. Their songs are a rich tapestry of storytelling, humor, and sentimentality, offering a fresh take on timeless themes.

Core members Andrew Morris (guitar) and Julie Bates (fiddle) founded the band in Germany in 2013, where they met while working as English teachers. In the decade since, they have crafted a signature style and live show that leaves spectators laughing, dancing, crying, and wondering what could possibly happen next.

Groundbreaking albums like the 2018 space opera Bluegrastronauts and the acoustic/electronic album One Fine Sweet and Sunny Day (2020) have garnered The Matchsellers critical acclaim and a dedicated following across the country.

In the band’s most recent iteration, mandolinist Brian McCarty brings an invaluable lifetime of experience in the Bluegrass tradition, while
Brandon Day thrills audiences with his intricate bass solos. Together, this
power‐house four‐piece continuously pushes the boundaries of what acoustic music can be.
